Acrylic nail extensions have been a salon standard for decades, but consistent results require a level of material understanding that most introductory training does not cover. This course focuses on what actually happens during the chemical reaction between liquid monomer and polymer powder, and how that affects every decision made during application.

Monomer-to-powder ratio

The ratio at which liquid and powder combine determines bead consistency, working time, and the final hardness of the set product. A wet bead moves and self-levels. A dry bead drags and sets with visible marks. The course documents the observable signs of each ratio and how to adjust mid-set when conditions change, including humidity and room temperature.

Nail technician Brigitte Okafor, who contributed to the course material review, noted that most lifting issues she observed in early-career work traced back to inconsistent ratios rather than surface preparation errors. That observation shaped how the course sequences its content.

Sculpting on forms versus tips

Both methods are taught. Sculpting on a paper form produces a thinner, lighter extension when done correctly. Tips provide a more predictable free edge shape but add thickness at the junction point. The course covers blending that junction and when each method suits the client better.

A dedicated module addresses apex placement. The apex is the thickest point of the extension and determines where the nail handles stress. Placing it incorrectly causes breaks at predictable points. The module uses cross-section diagrams and recorded demonstrations to show correct placement across different nail lengths.

Finishing and surface work

The final two modules cover filing technique, surface refinement, and preparation for gel colour or regular polish. Acrylic surfaces require a different buffing approach than gel. The course documents the difference with close-up footage at each stage.

Students complete four practice sets across the course duration and receive written feedback on each submission. The course runs over 10 weeks with flexible scheduling.
